A safe, orderly, and inviting classroom environment is created when a teacher is thoughtful to the needs of her students and cooperates with them in a respectful, caring, and consistent way.
Students must feel capable. In order for students to be successful, they must first believe they have the capacity for success. Confidence must be built by de-stigmatizing the presence of mistakes.
Students must feel connected. My classroom plan reflects the importance of students not only being connected with the teacher, but with peers as well. By recognizing the culture, identity, deeds, traits, and heart of every individual, it will not only make me seem more attentive, but it brings to light the complexity of all students
In my class I intend to co-create a code of conduct with my students in order for them to buy in to the norms of our community. Students should feel that they are invaluable assets to the class and that their character and skills can be utilized in classroom decision-making
It is my strongly held belief that not only students, but all people, behave in ways to get their needs met. When addressing the cause and consequences of misbehavior remaining cool and collected will maintain a positive relationship between the student and teacher.
