This week began what I am calling D.O.L. Club with the majority of my students. During independent reading time, I meet with smalls group for a few minutes with a specific focus for written grammar and usage. This “club” will practice correcting sentences using editing marks as well as record sentences I read orally. This explicit instruction is meant to be brief and concise and I am curious to see the impact it has on their writing conventions.
In order for me to have an idea where I stood with whole group instruction for math before my content coaching cycle begins, my CT gave me the opportunity to lead the students in a test-like multiplication question for morning work and Math RtI on Friday. She and I had looked together at previous multiplication unit tests so I could create a similar multi-select question in an area of weakness. In addition, I was able to incorporate the Promethean technology by having students submit their responses through their individual clickers. To be honest, I was nervous that something was going to go terribly wrong (either with the technology or with the question) but I was really impressed with how the students were able to work though and incorporate their testing strategies to help them solve and prove their answers. I am looking forward to discussing the lesson with my CT so her and I can set specific goals for my coaching cycle and beyond!
